MARK BERNER
for Mayor
of Council Grove
Your
Candidate
Hello, I’m Mark Berner, and I’m proud to be a candidate for Mayor of the City of Council Grove.
As a current City Council member, I have a deep understanding of the challenges our community faces — many of which I know you care about as well. I believe that by working together, we can create meaningful solutions that move Council Grove forward and build a strong, sustainable future for all who call it home.
I would be honored to earn your support and your vote this November.

Our Campaign's
TOP SIX Priorities
1.
Strengthening Infrastructure...
Council Grove is making meaningful progress on vital infrastructure improvements that enhance both daily life and long-term resilience. Recent upgrades include work on the Riverwalk Amphitheater, improvements to the water plant, and more. Collaborative efforts have also improved road safety and erosion control through resurfacing and drainage work. Additionally, a $650,000 grant is helping restore the historic Katy Depot, while utility upgrades in our parks and at the lake strengthen community spaces for future generations.

2.
Growing Tourism...
Council Grove can grow tourism by promoting its rich history, including its role on the Santa Fe Trail and its unique Native American heritage. Expanding events like Washunga Days and enhancing recreational assets like the Riverwalk and Council Grove Lakes can attract both day-trippers and weekend visitors. Supporting local businesses, lodging, and dining options will encourage longer stays and return trips. Strategic marketing and partnerships across the Flint Hills region can further position Council Grove as a must-visit destination in Kansas.

3.
City Beautification...
Council Grove is continuing to enhance its beauty by investing in streetscape improvements, public art, well-maintained parks and public spaces, and, most recently, through our Safe Routes to School Initiative. Supporting community clean-up efforts and revitalizing historic buildings will preserve the city’s charm while boosting civic pride. Expansion of landscaping along key corridors and entrances can create a more welcoming first impression for visitors and residents alike. With continued collaboration between city leaders, businesses, and volunteers, Council Grove can build a more vibrant and visually appealing environment for all.

4.
Restoring the Lake Leaseholders Relationship...
Council Grove can begin restoring the relationship with lake leaseholders by prioritizing open, respectful communication and consistent transparency in decision-making. Establishing regular forums for dialogue will ensure leaseholders have a voice in policies that directly affect their properties and quality of life. Collaborative efforts on shared goals—such as water quality, infrastructure, and more can build mutual trust and long-term partnership. By focusing on fairness, shared stewardship, and community values, the city can foster a renewed sense of unity around the lake’s future.

5.
Housing
& Business Growth…
Council Grove can support housing and business growth by offering incentives for new construction and redevelopment within city limits. Modernizing our permitting processes and continuing to invest in infrastructure will make it more convenient for developers and entrepreneurs to build and grow locally. Shared goals with regional economic development groups and financial institutions can attract investment and support small business innovation. By aligning planning efforts with community needs, Council Grove can create sustainable opportunities for both residents and businesses to thrive.
